The following tools were produced by field experts to help school agencies assess wellness approaches and improve wellness policy:

  • Wellness School Assessment Tool (WellSAT)
    • Developed by researchers at the Rudd Center for Food Policy & Obesity at Yale
    • Standard method for quantitative assessment of school wellness policy
  • Health Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (HECAT)
    • Developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
    • Helps school districts analyze health education curricula based on the national standards
  • Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (PECAT)
    • Developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
    • Assists school districts and individual schools to conduct a clear, complete, and consistent analysis of physical education curricula
  • Healthier School Day
    • Developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture
    • Includes resources on topic-specific policy and resource materials to assist schools in meeting the new nutrition standards. Additionally, the USDA site provides an audience-specific collection of resources including brochures, fact sheets, FAQs, school lessons, and templates to help prepare for changes to school meals.
