People with Comorbid Conditions

Comorbidity is the occurrence of two or more illnesses or disorders in the same person. Research has found a high prevalence of comorbidities between those with substance abuse issues and other conditions. Examples of comorbid conditions may include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Conduct disorders
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • HIV
  • Hepatitis C

Rural substance abuse treatment programs should also address comorbid conditions.
