HealthTran

  • Project Title: HealthTran
  • Program Representative Interviewed: Mary Gordon
  • Location: Jefferson City, Missouri
  • Program Overview: The HealthTran program serves those who do not have transportation services for health and wellness appointments in designated regions throughout rural Missouri. Healthcare providers refer patients to a HealthTran coordinator who links the patient to the most appropriate transportation option available. Patients receiving supplementary transportation funding from Medicaid or Veterans Services are not eligible to utilize HealthTran services for covered transportation.

The HealthTran program works with health and behavioral health providers, therapists, pharmacies, food sites, and social service agencies (profit/nonprofit) who refer individuals and families, unable to access care, for transportation assistance. Funding for transportation is generated through memberships, partnerships, and individuals. Building partnerships between transit organizations and healthcare providers in order to reduce barriers to care.
