Purpose

The Indian Health Service Health Professions Scholarship provides financial aid covering tuition, required fees, and other educational and living expenses for qualified American Indian and Alaska Native undergraduate- and graduate-level students enrolled in specific health profession degree programs.

Recipients of the scholarship are required to fulfill a service commitment at an Indian health facility for a minimum of 2 years, up to a maximum of 4 years full-time.

Eligibility

Individuals who are a member of a federally recognized tribe and Alaska Natives are eligible to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in an appropriately accredited school by August 1, 2024 and pursuing a course of study in a health profession.

    • Nursing
    • Dental hygiene
    • Environmental health
    • Engineering (Civil or Environmental)
    • Clinical Laboratory Scientist
    • Diagnostic radiology
  • Master degree programs:
    • Nurse midwife
    • Clinical social work
    • Occupational therapy
    • Nurse practitioner
    • Physician assistant
  • Doctoral degree programs:
    • Clinical psychology
    • Dentistry
    • Nurse anesthetist
    • Nurse practitioner (DNP)
    • Optometry
    • Pharmacy
    • Physician, allopathy or osteopathy
    • Physical therapy
    • Podiatry

The required service commitment is 2 years, with a commitment of 1 year of service per year of scholarship support received beyond the initial 2 years.
