Indian Health Service Health Professions Scholarship Program
The Indian Health Service Health Professions Scholarship provides financial aid covering tuition, required fees, and other educational and living expenses for qualified American Indian and Alaska Native students enrolled in a health profession degree program.
Recipients of the scholarship are required to fulfill a minimum 2-year service commitment at an Indian health facility.
Individuals who are a member of a federally recognized Indian Tribe or Alaska Native are eligible to apply. Applicants must be enrolled in an appropriately accredited school and pursuing a course of study in a health profession.
Eligible professions include:
- Chemical Dependency Counseling - Master's degree
- Clinical Psychology - PhD or PsyD
- Counseling Psychology - PhD
- Dentistry - DDS and DMD degrees
- Medicine - Allopathic and Osteopathic doctorate degrees
- Nursing - Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Nursing - Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse
- Nursing - Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Certified Nurse Midwife
- Optometry - OD
- Pharmacy - PharmD
- Physician Assistant - Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
- Physical Therapy - MS and DPT
- Podiatry - DPM
- Social Work - Master's degree with concentrations in director clinical practice
- Environmental Engineering - BS (Junior and senior undergraduate only)
- Environmental Health/Sanitarian - BS (Junior and senior undergraduate only)
The award will cover tuition, required fees, and other educational and living expenses.
The required commitment is one year of service per year of scholarship support (minimum of 2 years and up to 4 years).
