Transitional Living Program
The Transitional Living Program (TLP) provides funding to implement, enhance, and/or support effective strategies for successful transition to sustainable living for runaway and homeless youth ages 16 to under 22 and/or pregnant and parenting youth ages 16 to under 22 and their dependent children.
Through the provision of shelter and services, indicators of improvements include, but are not limited to:
- Social and Emotional Well-Being: Youth or pregnant and parenting youth will connect to systems of care providers that are trauma-informed, promote positive and healthy messages, and assist youth with improved physical health, dental health, and mental health.
- Permanent Connections: Youth or pregnant and parenting youth will experience positive ongoing attachments to families, communities, schools, and other social networks.
- Education or Employment: Youth or pregnant and parenting youth will connect to school including post-secondary education or vocational training program; learn or improve interviewing and improve job attainment skills; and secure employment.
- Safe and Stable Housing: Youth or pregnant and parenting youth and their dependent children will transition to safe and stable housing that appropriately matches their level of need after leaving a TLP to include: rapid re-housing, permanent supportive housing, moving in with family, residential treatment center, or substance abuse treatment facility.
Eligible applicants are public and nonprofit private entities and coordinated networks of such entities.
Priority will be given to applicants that have experience in providing shelter and services to homeless youth. The applicants selected will also represent diverse geographic regions of the U.S.
Award ceiling: $250,000 per year
Award floor: $100,000 per year
Project period: 3 years
Expected number of awards: 18
Estimated total program funding: $4,500,000
Grantees must provide at least 10% of the total approved cost of the project through cash or in-kind contributions.
