The Nebraska Rural Health Student Loan Program offers forgivable loans to medical, dental, physician assistant, and graduate-level mental health students who agree to practice in a state-designated shortage area upon graduation.

Loans are forgiven at the rate of one year of full-time service per year of loan.


To be eligible, students, who are Nebraska residents, must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a medical, physician assistant, dental, or graduate-level mental health training program in Nebraska.

Geographic coverage
Amount of funding

Medical, dental, and psychology students are eligible for up to $30,000 for up to 4 years.

Physician assistant and master's level mental health students are eligible for up to $15,000 for up to 2 years.

Application process

Contact Nancy Jo Hansen or Tom Rauner to begin the application process. Applications are accepted April 1 through June 1 of each year.
