The Nurse Anesthetist Traineeship Program (NAT) provides funding to support accredited institutions that educate registered nurses to become nurse anesthetists. Institutions, in turn, disburse funds to students in the form of traineeship support. The goal of the program is to expand access to anesthesia services, especially to rural, urban, and tribal underserved communities nationwide.

Program objectives include:

• Provide traineeship awards to eligible student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs), enrolled full-time in an accredited nurse anesthesia program
• Recruit, train, and provide support, such as stipends, mentorship, and peer support, to students, including those from diverse populations, disadvantaged backgrounds, and underrepresented racial and ethnic minorities in the nursing profession
• Enhance didactic and clinical curriculum that provides trainees experiential learning opportunities which focus on delivery of culturally competent care and addressing health equity and social determinants of health in vulnerable and underserved populations

Preference will be given to applicants with projects that will substantially benefit rural or underserved populations, or help meet public health nursing needs in state or local health departments.

Eligible applicants are schools of nursing, nursing centers, academic health centers, state or local governments, and other public or private nonprofit entities that provide graduate nurse anesthesia education and are accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.

Award Amount: Funds are distributed by formula.
