Purpose

Rural PREP provides a travel support program for individuals presenting at regional/multi-state, national, and international meetings held within the United States with the primary purpose of disseminating rural health professions education research and scholarship.

The scope of research and scholarship of interest to Rural PREP includes:

  • Research in the design, implementation, and outcomes of interventions in health professions education and training for rural practice, including health systems and workforce research
  • Scholarly activity completed by learners in the course of health professions education and training in a rural location

Recipients will be required to provide Rural PREP with an abstract and presentation materials after travel completion.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants are:

  • Any student, resident, or other health professional trainee engaged in a rurally located education or training program or a structured rural education or training pathway, whose scholarly work has been accepted for an oral research presentation, workshop, lecture-discussion, or seminar at a regional (multi-State), national or international meeting held in the United States
  • Any learner, faculty member, researcher, or administrator whose rural health professions education research in the design, implementation and outcomes of rural health professions education and/or training has been accepted for an oral presentation, workshop, lecture-discussion, or seminar at a regional (multi-State), national or international meeting held in the United States

No more than 3 individuals may receive a travel support award for any single oral presentation, workshop, or seminar, and no individual may receive more than 2 such awards in any academic year.
