The Advanced Nursing Education - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (ANE-SANE) Program provides grants to increase the number of registered nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, and forensic nurses trained and certified as sexual assault nurse examiners (SANEs), with a preference for projects that will substantially benefit rural or underserved populations or help meet public health nursing needs in state or local health departments.
Program goals include:
- Increase the number of trained and certified SANEs
- Increase the number of available SANE trainings
- Expand access to sexual assault forensic examinations, especially in rural and underserved areas
- Foster an environment that supports SANE training, practice and retention
Applicants must address the following requirements and expectations:
- Provide financial support for trainees to complete SANE training and certification
- Implement curriculum that addresses social determinants of health, health disparities, behavioral health and promotes health equity
- Develop or enhance clinical training sites
- Ensure trainees complete appropriate clinical training with competent preceptors
- Ensure trainees complete all state/national requirements and practice hours needed for training and certification
- Ensure SANE retention through peer support, mentorship, counseling and continuing education
- Collaborate with other ANE-SANE grantees to share resources, best practices and bolster project success
- Establish or enhance academic-practice partnerships with entities such as HRSA-supported health centers and Rural Health Clinics to recruit diverse trainees and provide clinical and experiential training
- Fulfill all program evaluation requirements
Eligible applicants in the 50 states and U.S. territories include:
- Accredited schools of nursing
- Nursing centers
- Nurse-managed health clinics
- Academic health centers
- State and local health departments
- HRSA-supported health centers
- Rural Health Clinics
- Public and nonprofit hospitals
- Emergency healthcare service providers
- Federally Qualified Health Centers
- Clinics receiving funding under Title X
- Federally recognized tribes
- Tribal organizations
- Other relevant public and private nonprofit entities
Award ceiling: $500,000 per year
Project period: 3 years
