Gilead COMPASS (COMmitment to Partnership in Addressing HIV/AIDS in Southern States) Initiative Core Grants support community-based organizations that prioritize HIV/AIDS prevention and/or care services across the southern United States. Funding may be used for a variety of organizational and staff resources, including technology and software, meeting space costs, conference attendance fees, professional development, and continuing education.

The program offers support under 4 funding opportunities.

  1. Technology
  2. Staff continuing education support
  3. Community meeting space support
  4. Capacity building support in one of the following areas:
    • Governance and leadership
    • Mission, values, and strategy
    • Finance and administration
    • Resource development
    • Strategic relationships and coalition building
    • Communications
    • Internal management and operations
    • Service delivery and impact

Applicants must be nonprofit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations or have a fiscal sponsor with 501(c)(3) status.

Applicants must be be located in and provide services in one of 9 deep south states. Organizations must have been doing HIV-related work for at least two years prior to applying.

Organizations are only eligible to receive technology funding once every 3 years.

Amount of funding

Technology: Up to $4,500
Staff continuing education support: Up to $4,500
Community meeting space support: Up to $4,500
All capacity building support: Up to $7,000
