This grant program provides funding for organizations and communities to hold convenings that include patients, researchers, clinicians, purchasers, payers, health system leaders, and other stakeholders. Convenings should focus on supporting collaboration around patient-centered outcomes research and clinical comparative effectiveness research (PCOR/CER).
Convenings should have a central focus or theme that unifies stakeholders, such as:
- Geography
- Health condition
- Population
Proposed convenings may focus on:
- Facilitating discussion around development of research topics, questions, and engagement plans for patient-centered outcomes research
- Sharing engagement methods and fostering partnerships
- Convening around the life cycle of PCOR/CER, including strategies for dissemination of research findings
Meetings should:
- Explore PCOR/CER issues or communicate PCORI-funded research findings to targeted end-user audiences
- Support collaboration around PCOR/CER
- Produce at least one deliverable/project output
Themes of focus:
- Cardiovascular health
- Mental and behavioral health
- Pain management
- Sleep health
- Substance use
- Violence and trauma
- Preventing maternal morbidity and mortality
- Improving outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Addressing COVID-19
- Addressing rare disease
Populations of interest:
- Residents of rural areas
- Underrepresented racial and ethnic groups
- Low-income groups
- Women
- Children (ages 0 to 17 years)
- Older adults (ages 65 years and older)
- Individuals with special healthcare needs, including individuals with disabilities
- Individuals with multiple chronic diseases
- Individuals with rare diseases
- Individuals whose genetic makeup affects their medical outcomes
- Patients with low health literacy, numeracy, or limited English proficiency
- Gender and sexual minorities
- Veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families
Applications may be submitted by:
- Nonprofit organizations
- For-profit organizations
- Public-sector research organizations, including universities, colleges, hospitals, and healthcare systems
- Any units of local, state, and federal government
U.S.-based applicants must have a Federal Employer Identification Number assigned by the Internal Revenue Service.
Foreign organizations and nondomestic parts of U.S. organizations must show how the project will benefit the U.S. healthcare system and that engagement plans include U.S. patients and stakeholders.
Award ceiling: $100,000
Project period: 1 year

Applicants must submit a letter of intent through the online portal by September 28, 2023. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal, with a deadline of January 10, 2024.
