Purpose

The Iowa Department of Public Health will provide funding for qualified sponsors to support the creation and training of psychiatry residencies who will provide mental health services in rural, underserved areas of Iowa.

Sponsors will be required to:

  • Create residencies and train psychiatry residents
  • Incorporate equitable and culturally competent care principles into psychiatry residency training
  • Demonstrate how to provide mental health services in underserved parts of the state as part of a psychiatry residency program
  • Demonstrate how to establish or maintain collaborative partnerships to address mental health disparities
  • Engage psychiatry residents in collaborative healthcare
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are hospitals, schools, and consortia responsible for primary organizational and financial responsibility for a psychiatry residency training program in Iowa. Applicants must be accountable to an accrediting body with Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
