Purpose

This program provides grants to support pilot, feasibility, implementation, or definitive studies on implementation approaches to enhance screening and treatment of substance use or mental health disorders in the HRSA Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program. Research sites should be located within the National Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) plan, including the top 48 counties; Washington, DC; San Juan, Puerto Rico; and the 7 states with a disproportionate occurrence of HIV in rural areas.

There are two funding opportunities under this program. Application instructions for each research code includes a list of potential research approaches.

  1. R01 Research Project Grant that supports a discrete project to be performed by an investigator in an area representing the investigator's specific interest and competencies
  2. R34 Research Planning Grant that supports the initial development of a clinical trial or research project

Amount of funding

R01 project budgets are limited to $500,000 in any single year. The maximum project period is 5 years.

R34 project budgets are limited to $450,000 over the entire 3-year project period, with no more than $225,000 in direct costs in any single year.
