Purpose

This Waiver Eligibility Training program provides a free online and computer-based training series for physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants that satisfies some of the requirements to obtain a waiver for prescribing buprenorphine to treat opioid use disorder.

A total of 8 hours of training is federally mandated for physicians and a total of 24 hours of training is mandated for nurse practitioners, and physician assistants.

The first half of each training session is a 4.25 hour live webcast, which is followed by a 3.75 hour computer-based study and an examination. The webinar portion is entitled Office-Based Treatment for Opioid Use Disorders Webinar, and it is offered on multiple dates.

Eligibility

The training is designed for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and professional school students. Membership in The American Osteopathic Academy of Addiction Medicine is not required.

The training is offered at no cost. The training has been approved for 4.25 AOA Category 1-A CME credits.
