Purpose

This program provides funding to support well-designed studies that compare the clinical effectiveness of multicomponent strategies to improve the early detection of and timely care for risk factors and complications up to 6 weeks postpartum among women from underserved population groups who experience the greatest health disparities, including Black, American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN), and Hispanic women, women who live in rural areas, and women with low/lower socioeconomic status (SES).

Eligible projects may target a range of strategies including but not limited to:

  • Increased patient/clinician contact
  • Patient and/or clinician education
  • Patient and/or clinician reminder systems
  • Home visits from nurses, community health workers, or doulas
  • Telehealth
  • Care coordination
  • Strategies to overcome bias and racism
Eligibility

Eligible applicants include any public or private-sector research organization, including:

  • Nonprofit organizations
  • For-profit organizations
  • Universities and colleges
  • Hospitals and healthcare systems
  • Laboratories and manufacturers
  • Units of local, state, and federal government
Geographic coverage
Nationwide
Amount of funding

Up to $5,000,000 for small studies and up to $15,000,000 for large studies

Project period: 5 years

Applicants must submit a letter of intent through the online system by June 1, 2022. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application, with a deadline of August 31, 2022.
