Purpose

First Nations Development Institute will provide grants to support communities and programs focused on increasing access to first foods and supporting culturally appropriate lactation practices for Native parents, caretakers, and young children.

Projects will focus on:

  • Promoting breastfeeding practices
  • Boosting nutrition for lactating parents
  • Increasing traditional food access for infants and young children
  • Enriching community-led food production with a focus on youth involvement
Eligibility

Eligible applicants include, but are not limited to:

  • Federal and state recognized tribal governments and tribal government programs
  • Native-controlled 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
  • Native-controlled community organizations with fiscal sponsorship
  • Native 7871 organizations
