Wisconsin Grants to Improve Cultural Competence of the Behavioral Health Workforce

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services will provide grants to support culturally appropriate community-based behavioral health services for underserved populations who face barriers in accessing and using mental health and substance use services.
Program goals include:
- Promote and develop competencies within the behavioral health workforce in identifying unmet needs for mental health and substance use services among people from underserved communities
- Improve the service delivery system to expand access to people in underserved communities
- Develop behavioral health workforce competencies in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion
Barriers in accessing mental health and substance use services for a population could correspond to:
- Geographic location
- Religion
- Sexual orientation, and gender identity
- Racial or ethnic status
- Language
- Disability
- Citizenship status
- Age
Eligible applicants are entities in Wisconsin that work directly with underserved populations, including:
- County agencies
- Agencies from federally recognized tribes
- Nonprofit organizations
Award ceiling: $100,000
Project period: 1 year
Estimated number of awards: 10
