Purpose

The Oral Health Infrastructure and New Approaches Program will provide grants for safety net dental clinics in North Carolina to support replacing critical equipment and/or integrating new approaches to oral healthcare delivery.

Project examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Critical infrastructure replacements or necessary upgrades, such as new tires for mobile unit or a new x-ray machine
  • Additional mobile unit infrastructure to expand existing mobile work, particularly to serve a population that is challenging to reach in-clinic
  • Additional dental chair for an existing clinic. This could include a specialized chair and other equipment for people with disabilities
  • Intraoral cameras to support telehealth
  • Patient experience software and staff time to implement the system, analyze data, and implement changes to increase patient satisfaction
  • Supplies and initial staff time to implement a dental navigator program to support outreach to underrepresented communities, making initial and follow up appointments, and ensuring patients have transportation
  • Supplies and initial staff time to integrate oral health services on location at another type of provider's office, such as a midwife, OB-GYN, pediatrician, primary care physician, or behavioral health
Eligibility

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Safety net dental clinics, such as health departments, community health centers and 501(c)(3) clinics
  • Bills Medicaid
  • Provides a dental home
  • Request reflects a plan to increase or preserve clinic efficiency and effectiveness

Highly preferred eligibility factors include:

  • Clear analysis of equity
  • Plan to increase or preserve access to care for a specific population
  • Serving rural North Carolina counties
  • Basic description of how the new strategy could be sustained beyond this funding opportunity
