Purpose

The Empower Rural Iowa Initiative will provide grants for projects that leverage GPS-location technology with trained volunteers to decrease the immediate response time and stabilize emergencies while coordinating with emergency assistance.

Eligible uses of funding include:

  • Volunteer training costs
  • Equipment for volunteer responders
  • Materials
  • Marketing
  • Personnel time dedicated to the project (planning, execution, evaluation time)
  • Professional services
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are Iowa for-profit businesses, city governments, county governments, nonprofit organizations, and foundations.

Award ceiling: $50,000
Project period: 1 year
Estimated number of awards: 2

Awardees must have a minimum of 1:1/2 cash match, or $25,000.

Application process

A rubric for application submission is provided on the program website. Submit a pre-application through the online system by March 1, 2023. Selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application, with a deadline of May 1, 2023.
