AmeriCorps awards grants to organizations to implement programs that utilize AmeriCorps members to engage in evidence-based or evidence-informed interventions to strengthen rural and urban communities.
For this funding round, the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) will prioritize projects with a focus on:
- Healthy Futures: reducing and/or preventing prescription drug and opioid abuse
- Infrastructure: Working to improve or support improvement of one or more of the priority infrastructure categories
- Reducing and/or preventing child abuse
- Improving outcomes for child victims of abuse
- Improving outcomes for foster youth, including youth aging out of foster care
Entities eligible to apply include:
- Nonprofit organizations
- Institutions of higher education
- Local governments
- Indian tribes
CNCS encourages organizations that have never received funding from the Corporation or AmeriCorps to apply. The general practice is to award between 20-50 member positions to organizations receiving an AmeriCorps grant for the first time.
AmeriCorps grants can be awarded on a cost reimbursement or fixed amount basis. See the application instructions for complete details and award amounts.
A first-time successful applicant is required to match 24% for the first 3-year funding period. Starting with year 4, the match requirement gradually increases every year to 50% by year 10. A table is provided in the application instructions.
Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to submit an online notification of intent to apply by April 2, 2018.
Single-state applicant deadlines to State and Territory Commissions may be significantly before the CNCS deadlines, so prospective state applicants should contact the commission in the state or territory where they intend to apply as early as possible. A list of State Commission Contacts is available on the CNCS website.
Single-state applicants from South Dakota, American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are eligible to apply directly to CNCS. Potential applicants should contact firstname.lastname@example.org for additional guidance.
