Study Finds That Adverse Childhood Experiences Increase Risk of Opioid Addiction, Relapse after Treatment

A new study of patients being treated for opioid addictions at a rural clinic shows a connection between adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and addiction relapse. Each additional ACE corresponded with a 17% higher chance of relapse, demonstrating how trauma can link to addiction. Each treatment visit decreased the chance of relapse by 2%.
