Diabetes: A Closer Look

In the United States, 29.1 million people (9.3 percent of the population) have diabetes, and estimates put yet-undiagnosed individuals at 8.1 million, according to the 2014 National Diabetes Statistics Report (no longer available online). Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death. The total medical costs for diabetes are approximately $245 billion per year.
