  • Project Title: A Stitch in Time or STITCH
  • Grant Period: 2012-2015
  • Program Representative Interviewed: Jamie Lee, Diabetes Program Manager
  • Location: Somerset, KY
  • Program Overview: STITCH was a workplace-based wellness program, implemented in two Appalachian counties in southern Kentucky, that sought to empower employees in two sewing factories to take control of their health and their community's health. The program provided information and resources to address diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and smoking, and access to affordable dental and medical care. The program partnered with worksites and provided healthy behaviors and lifestyle change services and education at the facilities during the work day including lab screening, lunch lessons, flu vaccines, and pedometer walking challenges. The program adapted existing programs, materials, and curricula to address the needs of the target population. A description of the program is available from the Rural Health Care Services Outreach Grant Program Source Book.
