Diabetes Mortality Gap Widens for Rural Americans
May 8, 2019 -- A new study shows that disparities between rural and urban diabetes mortality rates are increasing. While mortality rates related to diabetes in urban areas have decreased over time, rural areas have not been keeping pace.

Cost of Graduate Medical Education Stifling Ability to Bolster Physician Workforce
May 4, 2019 -- Physician shortages and limits on Medicare reimbursement for residency training are encouraging legislation to increase the number of residency slots. Yet how to encourage physicians to go to the locations and into the specialties experiencing shortages is under discussion. CMS: Draft Guidance for Hospital Co-location with Other Hospitals or Healthcare Facilities
May 3, 2019 -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is releasing a draft guidance to help hospitals make decisions about space sharing and contracted staff arrangements. Comments on the draft policies will be due July 2, 2019.

Udall, Cortez Masto, Smith Reintroduce Bill to Increase Access to Nutritious Meals for Native Students
May 2, 2019 -- The U.S. Senate reintroduced legislation that would allow tribes to administer Child Nutrition Programs. These programs help promote access to healthy food, an important component in reducing obesity and diabetes.
