New Rural COVID Infections Top 195,000 in One Week
Nov 17, 2020 -- Analyzes new COVID-19 infection rates from November 8-14, 2020. Finds the weekly number of infections in rural counties reached 195,795, meeting a new record for the eighth consecutive week. 86% of rural counties are in the red-zone and more than a quarter of those counties have infection rates that exceed 500 cases per 100,000 residents.

Rural Faith Leaders Workshop Series: Empowering Faith Leaders to Help Persons with Substance Use Disorder
Nov 16, 2020 -- The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) organized a workshop series to share information and resources on substance use disorder (SUD) with rural faith leaders. Hosted by the Rural Community Toolbox, the first workshop, Substance Use Disorder and the Pandemic in Rural Communities, will be held on December 8, 2020. Includes registration information.

2019 Broadband Deployment Data Show Digital Divide Is Closing
Nov 12, 2020 -- The Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Office of Economics and Analytics released data showing that the digital divide is closing, with the number of rural Americans living in areas with 250/25 Mbps broadband service increasing by 268 percent. Discusses how Phase I of the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund auction will continue to expand broadband access across rural America.

Rural Hospitals Brace for Increased Coronavirus Cases
Nov 12, 2020 -- As COVID-19 accelerates its spread across rural America, hospital administrators in rural Kentucky and Nebraska discuss how their facilities are impacted. Faced with staffing shortages, bed shortages, funding issues, and increasing volumes of COVID-positive patients, rural hospitals are struggling to keep up.

HHS: Request for Information-Landscape Analysis To Leverage Novel Technologies for Chronic Disease Management for Aging Underserved Populations
Nov 17, 2020 -- The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Health (OASH) in the Department of Health and Human Services has issued a request for information regarding innovative solutions to chronic disease management for aging populations in underserved areas by leveraging technology-driven solutions. OASH will review information collected to better inform federal government priorities and programs and to identify opportunities to strengthen the U.S. healthcare system. Comments are due by December 22, 2020.

Advanced Nursing Education - Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (ANE-SANE) Program
Grants to increase the number of registered nurses, advanced practice registered nurses, and forensic nurses trained and certified as sexual assault nurse examiners, with a preference for projects that will substantially benefit rural or underserved populations or help meet public health nursing needs in state or local health departments.
