Mar 31, 2021 -- Features Yolo Hospice, a non-profit hospice provider in Northern California that is utilizing grant funds to research and address challenges that residents of rural and Native American communities face when accessing hospice and palliative care. Describes barriers to hospice and palliative care access and highlights plans to launch their own program and work with providers in other regions to help them provide accessible and culturally sensitive care to Indigenous communities.

NIH to Enhance Tribal Engagement Efforts for Precision Medicine Research

Survey Results: COVID-19 Vaccine Activities in Rural Health Clinics
Mar 26, 2021 -- Summarizes results of a survey by the National Association of Rural Health Clinics (NARHC) that found 55% of Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) are actively involved in administering COVID-19 vaccines to patients and over 90% are involved in educating patients about the vaccine. Describes that 43% of RHCs had vaccination plans disrupted by a lack of vaccine supply.

Biden Administration Announces Historic $10 Billion Investment to Expand Access to COVID-19 Vaccines and Build Vaccine Confidence in Hardest-Hit and Highest-Risk Communities
Mar 25, 2021 -- The Biden-Harris Administration announced a series of actions to expand access to COVID-19 vaccines, including $10 billion in funding from the American Rescue Plan to better serve communities of color, rural areas, low-income populations, and other underserved communities in the COVID-19 response. Includes the announcement of a new partnership with dialysis clinics to provide vaccinations to people receiving dialysis and healthcare personnel in outpatient dialysis clinics.

CMS Updates Medicare COVID-19 Data Snapshot
Mar 24, 2021 -- The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released an updated data snapshot detailing the impact of COVID-19 on Medicare beneficiaries, particularly among underserved beneficiaries. Updates include additional data on COVID-19 case and hospitalization rates by race/ethnicity and in rural areas, and Medicare Fee-for-Service spending associated with COVID-19.

Mar 24, 2021 -- Summarizes a report that found nearly 40% of the nation's hospitals are expected to operate at a loss in 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Describes that financial prospects for rural hospitals are worse, with profit margins expected to decrease 38% this year.

HRSA: Notice Solicitation of Nominations for Membership To Serve on the Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-Based Linkages
Mar 29, 2021 -- The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is seeking nominations of qualified candidates to be considered for appointment as members of the Advisory Committee on Interdisciplinary, Community-Based Linkages (ACICBL). The ACICBL provides advice and recommendations to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services on policy and program development related to activities under Part D, Title VII of the Public Health Service (PHS) Act. The ACICBL currently focuses on Area Health Education Centers; Geriatrics; Allied Health; Chiropractic; Podiatric Medicine; Mental and Behavioral Health, including Social Work and Graduate Psychology; and Rural Health. Nominations are due by the end of the fiscal year.
