Identifies states that saw an increase in red-zone counties, such as Kentucky, Nebraska, Ohio, and Michigan. Includes an interactive map of infection rates for all U.S. counties. Source: PBS Coming Soon: Emergency Broadband Benefit Program Apr 1, 2021 -- The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is seeking assistance from healthcare centers, grantees, and partners in spreading the word about the upcoming Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program. Through this program, $3.2 billion in funding will be available to provide qualifying households discounts on their internet service bills. Applications will be accepting beginning in late April. Source: Federal Communications Commission U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Launches Nationwide Network of Trusted Voices to Encourage Vaccination in Next Phase of COVID-19 Public Education Campaign Apr 1, 2021 -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the launch of the COVID-19 Community Corps, a nationwide network of local and trusted voices to encourage Americans to get vaccinated. This effort will mobilize health professionals, scientists, community organizations, faith leaders, businesses, rural stakeholders, civil rights organizations, sports leagues and athletes, and others to encourage vaccinations. Includes a full list of founding members and instructions on how to sign up to become a member Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Racial Disparities in Death Rates from Chronic Diseases Show Minimal Improvement over Last Two Decades Mar 29, 2021 -- Summarizes a study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology that examined racial disparities for chronic diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. Reports that the disparities improved slightly in rural areas, with larger improvements occurring in urban areas.
