Mar 22, 2024 - Announcement from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the approval of the Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC) as a national accrediting organization providing home infusion therapy services that wish to participate in the Medicare or Medicaid programs. The approval is effective March 27, 2024, through March 27, 2030.

Mar 6, 2024 - Announcement from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) of receipt of an application from COLA for re-approval as an accreditation organization for clinical laboratories under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) program for several specialty and subspecialty laboratories. CMS has re-approved COLA as an accreditation organization under CLIA and grants deeming authority for 6 years through March 6, 2030.

Feb 15, 2024 - Notice of proposed rule from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that would set forth provisions to strengthen accrediting organization oversight by addressing conflicts of interest, establishing consistent standards, processes and definitions, and updating the validation and performance standards systems. Additionally, this proposed rule would revise the psychiatric hospital survey process, add a limitation on terminated deemed providers and suppliers when reentering the program, and provides technical corrections for End-Stage Renal Disease facilities and Kidney Transplant Programs. Comments are due April 15, 2024.

HHS: Medications for the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder

Feb 2, 2024 - Notice of final rule from the U.S. Department of
Health and Human Services (HHS), Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) modifying and
updating certain regulatory provisions related to opioid
treatment program (OTP) accreditation, certification, and
standards for the treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD)
with medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). These
changes include making flexibilities established during the
COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE) permanent and
expanding access to care and evidence-based treatment for
OUD. This rule also removes all language and rules relating
to the Drug Addiction and Treatment Act (DATA) Waiver from
the regulations pursuant to the Consolidated Appropriations
Act, 2023. This rule is effective April 2, 2024, and the
compliance date is April 2, 2026.
