Module 3: Program Clearinghouse

Many programs are working in rural areas with the goal of increasing access to healthy food. Examples of current organizations that have developed promising programs designed to improve healthy food access in a rural community are provided below. Evidence-based and promising service models for improving healthy food access are available in Module 2.

  • Community Food and Agriculture Coalition of Missoula County
    Synopsis: Missoula County's Double SNAP Dollars program increases the accessibility of fresh produce for people using food assistance benefits.
  • Fifth Season Cooperative
    Synopsis: Fifth Season Cooperative is a food hub in western Wisconsin that connects small farms to larger buyers.
  • Florida Impact
    Synopsis: Florida Impact helps communities implement federal child nutrition programs across the state of Florida.
  • Grow Appalachia
    Synopsis: With support from Berea College in Kentucky, Grow Appalachia helps families and communities across Appalachia grow more of their own food.
  • Hoquiam School District
    Synopsis: Hoquiam Food Service uses federal nutrition programs and innovative delivery models to serve more students breakfast and lunch every day.
  • Roadrunner Food Bank
    Synopsis: Roadrunner Food Bank's Mobile Food Pantry, Childhood Hunger Initiative supports families across New Mexico by providing fresh, healthy food to those in need.
