- Program Overview: Established in 2008, Project Lazarus uses a public health model to address and prevent drug overdose deaths. Community awareness is at the center of Project Lazarus, with other components including prevention of overdose via medical education, use of rescue medication to reverse overdoses, and monitoring and evaluation of project activities. Project Lazarus has been replicated in over 85 counties in North Carolina as well as in communities in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Diversion Alert has also adapted this approach for tribal communities in Maine.
