Analyzes enrollment and claims data from 2012 for 35 states to describe inpatient and other institutional encounters among Medicaid enrollees prior to Medicaid expansion in 2014. Includes statistics on inpatient visits by rurality, hospitalization rates by rurality and provider payment plans, and the proportion of Medicaid enrollees with at least one long-term care stay by facility and rurality.
