Purpose

The South Carolina Rural Dentist Program provides loan repayment assistance to dentists who agree to practice in an approved shortage area of South Carolina or serve as full-time faculty at the MUSC College of Dental Medicine. Dentists are expected to treat at least 100 unduplicated Medicaid patients.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements:

  • Loans must be from a recognized financial institution
  • Applicants must have no active, outstanding service obligations to the federal or state government or any other entity
  • Applicants are expected to be (or become) a Medicaid provider and treat at least 100 unduplicated Medicaid patients a year
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident
  • Must practice in an area of need or contract to serve full-time at the MUSC College of Dental Medicine
