Rural Health Fellows Leadership Program

The Rural Health Fellows Program is designed to educate and develop a community of rural health leaders who will lead in their fields, articulate a compelling vision for rural America, and influence health policy at the local, state, and national levels. Applicants must demonstrate a dedication to improving rural health through their professional and community experience.
Selected participants will meet in person 3 times for intensive leadership and advocacy training. Applicants will also participate in conference calls and mentorship activities and should be dedicated to advocating on behalf of rural health.
Dates for training sessions are:
- February 9-11, 2027 at the Rural Health Policy Institute in Washington, D.C.
- May 18-21, 2027 at the NRHA Annual Rural Health Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana
- February 8-10, 2028 at the Rural Health Policy Institute in Washington, D.C.
Applicants must:
- Be members of the National Rural Health Association for at least 1 year
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to improving the health of all people residing in rural America, through the provision of equitable rural healthcare services.
- Be willing and able to commit to monthly conference calls as part of the program and complete a collaborative policy paper.
- Commit to attend all Rural Health Fellows training sessions.
There is no program fee for participation in the the Rural Health Fellows program.
15-20 participants are selected each year.
Applicants must have a sponsor (employer, corporate, or self) responsible for all travel and lodging costs to attend the training sessions.
