Iowa Primary Care Recruitment and Retention Endeavor (PRIMECARRE) Loan Repayment Program offers educational loan repayment assistance for primary care health professionals in return for a 2 year service commitment in a Health Professional Shortage Area in Iowa.


Applicants must be United States citizens and licensed or certified to practice in one of the following disciplines listed in the application instructions. Additional, specific eligibility requirements may be found starting on page 7 of the application instructions.

Amount of funding

Total Funding Available: $700,000

Up to $50,000 for:

  • Primary care physicians (MD, DO)
  • General and pediatric dentistry (DDS, DMD)
  • Pharmacist

Up to $40,000 for:

  • Nurse practitioners
  • Physician assistants
  • Psychiatric nurse specialist
  • Registered nurse
  • Certified nurse midwife
  • Health service psychologist

Up to $30,000 for:

  • Licensed clinical social worker
  • Licensed professional counselor
  • Marriage and family therapist
  • Registered clinical dental hygienist
  • Alcohol and substance abuse counselors
Application process

Applications must be submitted online through the Iowa Electronic Grant Management System.

Written questions must be submitted by October 31, 2018 using the online question submission process described on page 15 of the application instructions.

Submit applications through during Phase 1 by November 12, 2018. Details about Phases 2 and 3 are provided in the application instructions.
