Purpose

Rural Assistance Center for FORHP Cooperative Agreement will support a Rural Assistance Center (RAC). The RAC is a gateway to information on rural health for residents in rural areas of the United States and for all others interested in those issues. Through daily interactions and responding to inquiries and concerns, the RAC will be able to ensure that the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (FORHP) and the Department of Health and Human Services are informed of developing and ongoing grassroots issues in the rural U.S.

Successful applicants will work collaboratively with FORHP to prioritize key issues and develop information resources to share with callers and web users. RAC will also be expected to produce publications to highlight emerging rural health issues.

The awardee must be able to identify and facilitate access to information from a wide range of sources that deal with aspects of rural healthcare. Applicants should be familiar enough with technical assistance providers for rural healthcare that they can feel comfortable making referrals to avoid the duplication of services.

Additionally, the applicant will provide support to the "Improve Rural Health Care" Initiative, originally announced in the President's 2010 budget. The initiative seeks to strengthen partnerships among rural healthcare providers, recruit and retain rural healthcare professionals, and modernize the healthcare infrastructure in rural areas.

Eligibility

An applicant must be a public or private entity with a service commitment to and experience with rural issues. Applicant should have prior experience working with the full range of key rural interest groups. Please refer to program guidance for more information regarding the eligibility criteria.
