South Carolina Rural Provider Incentive Program
The South Carolina Rural Physician Incentive Grant Program makes cash awards to physicians who agree to practice in a Health Professional Shortage Area of South Carolina for up to 4 years.
Eligibility criteria:
- Primary care physicians (family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, OB/GYN) as well as general surgeons and psychiatrists
- Nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and physician assistants in the above specialties
- Must practice in an outpatient setting in an underserved area
- Must work 40 hours per week to qualify for full-time incentives and 20 hours per week for part-time incentives
- U.S. citizen
- Have practiced in the community for less than 5 years
- Cannot have previously received an award from the Rural Provider Incentive Program or Rural Physician Loan Repayment Program
Priorities:
- Geographic HPSA
- Counties with population less than 50,000
- Counties with population over 50,000
- Counties with population over 100,000
Awards range from $7,500 to $25,000 per year based on profession and location.
