Purpose

The South Carolina Rural Physician Incentive Grant Program makes cash awards to physicians who agree to practice in a Health Professional Shortage Area of South Carolina for up to 4 years.

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from residents, credentialed physicians, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and physician assistants in South Carolina.

Preference is given to applicants based on:

  • Level of community need
  • Specialty
  • Retention factors (such as education and/or training in South Carolina, rural residency, AHEC Scholars completion, and/or connection to the community)
  • Underrepresented minority
  • Committee recommendation

South Carolina
Amount of funding

Awards range from $7,500 to $25,000 per year based on profession and location.
