Louisiana Conrad State 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Program

Louisiana Department of Health
Applications accepted on an ongoing basis

The Louisiana Conrad State 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Program offers a J-1 Visa waiver to foreign physicians who commit to serving for 3 years in an underserved area of Louisiana, waiving the foreign medical residency requirement and allowing them to remain in the United States. The program is intended to provide physician services in areas that typically have difficulty attracting and retaining physicians.

From October 1 to March 31st, 20 slots will be reserved for primary care physicians and 10 for specialists. If there are still slots remaining as of January 1st, all applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Primary care fields include pediatrics, ob/gyn, internal medicine, geriatrics, family practice, forensic pathology, and psychiatry.

Priority is given to applicants who agree to serve in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) and to physicians who have completed their residency or fellowship in a Louisiana residency or fellowship program.
