New Mexico Allied Health Loan for Service Program

The New Mexico Allied Health Loan for Service Program offers forgivable loans to certain allied healthcare profession students who agree to practice in a healthcare shortage area of New Mexico upon completion of their education.
For every year of service provided in a designated shortage area within New Mexico, a portion of the loan will be forgiven. If the entire service agreement is fulfilled, 100% of the loan is eligible for forgiveness.
Applicants must be New Mexico residents enrolled at least half time and seeking undergraduate or graduate degrees in one of the following professions:
- Physical therapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech-language pathology
- Audiology
- Pharmacy
- Respiratory care
- Laboratory technology
- Mental health-social services
- Emergency medical services
- Nutrition
- Dental hygiene
Eligible practice sites include:
- Rural Health Clinics
- Community health centers
- Federally Qualified Health Centers
- Homeless healthcare centers
- Indian Health Services
- Migrant health centers
- Nonprofit health centers, clinics, and hospitals with 501(c)(3) status
The award is based on financial need of the student. Awards cannot exceed $16,000 per year, renewable for up to 4 years upon resubmission of an application each year.
