The BNSF Railway Foundation offers grants to organizations that operate near a BNSF railway. Priority giving areas include:

  • Health and Human Service Organizations, including:
    • Programs that address chemical dependency treatment and prevention
    • Spouse and child abuse programs
    • Women's and children's aid
    • Transitional shelters
    • Hospitals
    • Medical programs
  • Federally recognized tribal governments
  • Youth Organizations
  • Civic Services, including:
    • Parks and recreation
    • Crime prevention programs
    • Diversity programs
    • Community development
  • Educational Institutions
  • Cultural organizations that offer access to performing, visual, and fine arts, museums and other related activities to underserved children

Applications are accepted from:

  • 501(c)(3) organizations
  • Divisions of local government
  • Schools or universities
  • Federally recognized tribes

Organizations or programs should exist in or serve a community near one of BNSF's rail lines.

Geographic coverage
Nationwide in areas near BNSF rail lines.
Amount of funding

No award ceiling is given. Historically, grants have generally ranged between $1,000 - $10,000.
