The National Environmental Public Health Internship Program (NEPHIP) is seeking local, state, and tribal health departments to host summer environmental health student interns.
The program provides opportunities for college students from environmental health programs accredited by the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council to receive stipends to complete a 10-week internship. Information for students interested in applying is available on the student page.
Student and health department participants are encouraged to focus on projects that explore climate and health, food safety, onsite water and wastewater programs, vector control, institutional environmental health, and/or emergency preparedness.
Local, state, and tribal health departments are eligible to apply.
To be considered as a host program, the health department must:
- Provide opportunities for student interns to experience multiple environmental health programs and activities
- Have the ability to assist the student in identifying and completing an independent project that focuses on solving a current, local environmental health challenge
- Assign a mentor to advise the intern on a daily basis during the internship period
This is an opportunity to host an intern who can assist with environmental health projects. Information provided by the health department will be posted on the NEHA website for prospective students to view.
Participating health departments are provided a support package valued at up to $1,500 to compensate for intern related costs.
