From the program website, "In its initial release, the Virginia EMS Scholarship Program had over 200 applications. We are approving scholarships in small batches over the next several weeks. You will be notified via e-mail from the Virginia EMS Portal once there is a status on your scholarship."

This program provides scholarships to support qualified applicants seeking to earn an initial or advanced EMS credential within Virginia. Each scholarship recipient must agree to affiliate with a Virginia agency as either an employee or volunteer after the completion of the certification program.


Applicants must be Virginia residents that are enrolled in an initial certification or advanced certification program that is approved by Virginia Office of EMS.

Amount of funding

Maximum scholarship amounts are based on the certification program:

  • EMT: $495
  • Advanced EMT (AEMT): $619
  • Intermediate: $1,176
  • Paramedic: $2,166
  • Special award: $5,416

The special award is available for currently-certified Virginia intermediate providers who are enrolled in a paramedic certification program.

There are quarterly application windows:

  • January 1 – February 28
  • April 1 – May 31
  • July 1 – August 31
  • October 1 – November 30
