Purpose

The Pediatric Mental Health Care Access Program (PMHCA) is designed to improve mental and behavioral health for children and youth by funding programs that give pediatric primary care providers quick access to teleconsultation, training, and case coordination support. The program aims to remove barriers to care, focusing on rural areas and areas experiencing health professional shortages.

The program goals are to:

  • Increase the number of providers using the program for real-time behavioral consultations and/or care coordination support services, including for help with referrals
  • Increase the number of providers trained on child and youth behavioral health, including screening, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Improve access to PMHCA services and resources that address the behavioral health needs of children and youth
  • Increase the number of children and youth who receive care
Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • State, territory, county, city, and special district governments
  • Native American tribal governments
  • Native American tribal organizations

Estimated award amount: $445,000 per year
Project period: 5 years
Estimated number of awards: 22
Estimated total program funding: $9,790,000

A 20% non-federal match is required.
