The American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) offers one year fellowships that feature curriculum, faculty, and events tailored to address a topic of significant relevance to family medicine. Tracks include rural health, academic medicine, and traditional family medicine.

Between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021, fellows are expected to dedicate 15-20 hours per month to the fellowship including quarterly learning modules, conference calls, webinars, in-person meetings, and a capstone project.


Eligible applicants include:

  • AAFP membership with a preference for applicants who are from population groups underrepresented in medicine and/or those practicing in rural communities
  • In practice or on teaching faculty
  • Out of residency and fellowship

Travel and lodging expenses will be reimbursed up to $1,500 per meeting.
