Purpose

Funding to create new, or expand existing, primary care graduate medical education (GME) programs in New Mexico.

GME programs must:

  • Be an existing, new, or planned, nationally accredited, non-military residency program
  • Have, or intend to have, first year residency positions
  • Intend to create new first year positions through expansion of an existing program or establishment of a new GME program

Priority may be given to applications that emphasize:

  • The creation or expansion of primary care specialty programs
  • Increasing or expanding the number of primary care positions at existing programs in medically underserved and health professional shortage affected areas
Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Licensed hospitals
  • Academic medical education institutions
  • New or proposed freestanding graduate medical education programs
  • Established or new graduate medical education training consortiums
  • Federally Qualified Health Centers
  • Rural Health Clinics

Amount of funding

Each new primary care resident FTE will be funded at $100,000, and all other resident FTE will be funded at $50,000.

Total funding available: $1,000,000

Applicants are encouraged, but not required, to email a letter of interest to Alex Castillo Smith and Nicole Mandall by November 15, 2022.

New applicants seeking first time funding should submit the full application by January 31, 2023. Existing programs currently receiving HSD grant funding should submit the full application by February 28, 2023.
