New York Community Mental Health Loan Repayment Program
The New York State Office of Mental Health is offering a loan repayment program to support licensed community mental health programs in New York in the recruitment and retention of licensed master social workers (LMSWs), licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs), licensed mental health counselors (LMHCs), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs), licensed creative arts therapists (LCATs), licensed occupational therapists (OTR/Ls or OT/Ls), licensed psychoanalysts, and licensed psychologists, especially in shortage areas of the state.
Recipients must agree to a full-time service contract for 3 years.
Eligibility requirements include:
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien holding an I-155 or I-551 card
- Licensed to practice in New York State by the time the service obligation begins
- Not fulfilling any other state or federal loan repayment obligation where the obligation period of that repayment program would overlap or coincide with the obligation period of this program
- Have student loan expenses that need to be repaid
- In good standing with the New York State Education Department
- Not in breach of a health professional service obligation to federal, state, or local government, or have any judgment liens arising from federal or state debt; and must not be delinquent in child support payments
- Working in a clinical capacity providing direct care mental health services, assessment, treatment within licensed scope of practice
Award amount: Up to $30,000 per award
over a 3-year period
