This program (short title: PIPBHC-States) will provide funding to improve the health outcomes for people with behavioral health conditions by supporting the adoption and improvement of integrated care models for behavioral and primary physical health at the state level.
The purpose of the program is to:
- Promote full integration and collaboration in clinical practice between physical and behavioral healthcare
- Support the improvement of integrated care models for physical and behavioral healthcare to improve overall wellness and physical health status
- Promote the implementation and improvement of bidirectional integrated care services including evidence-based or evidence-informed screening, assessment, diagnosis, prevention, treatment, and recovery services for mental and substance use disorders, and co-occurring physical health conditions and chronic diseases
States must partner with 1 or more qualified community programs, community health centers, Rural Health Clinics, or Federally Qualified Health Centers.
As applicable, services should include populations with demonstrated need, such as tribal, rural, or other communities with high medical needs and those with a workforce shortage of mental health and substance use disorder providers, pediatric mental health providers, and other related professionals.

Program eligibility is limited to states and appropriate state agencies, which may include the:
- State Mental Health Authority
- Single State Agency (SSA) for substance use services
- State Medicaid agency
- State Health Department
States must partner with 1 or more qualified community programs, community health centers, Rural Health Clinics, or Federally Qualified Health Centers.
Award ceiling: $2,000,000 per year
