Purpose

The Minnesota Office of Rural Health and Primary Care will provide loan repayment assistance for registered nurses in nonprofit hospitals who agree to practice in a healthcare shortage area of Minnesota.

There is a service requirement for a minimum of 2 years, with the option to extend an additional 2 years.

Eligibility

Eligibility requirements:

  • Have a permanent and unrestricted license to practice independently and unsupervised in the state of Minnesota by March of 2024
  • Work in a nonprofit or public hospital located in Minnesota by the contract start date
  • Have qualified educational loans that include include government, commercial, and foundation loans for actual costs paid for tuition and reasonable education/living expenses related to the past graduate or undergraduate education
  • Have at least $6,000 in loans that are not in current or active default

$6,000 for a minimum of 2 years, with the option to extend for an additional 2 years (not to exceed $24,000 total or the balance of the designated loans, whichever is less).
