The Alaska Children's Trust is offering mini-grants to support Orange Shirt Day activities across Alaska. Orange Shirt Day is a national day of remembrance of the damage the U.S. Indian Boarding School system did to indigenous children, lifeways, and cultures and works to address the resulting abuse and trauma in indigenous families and communities.
Orange Shirt Day is September 30, 2023.
Examples of activities include:
- Hosting an orange shirt-making event
- Sign-making and organizing a sign-waving, walk, and/or candlelight vigil event
- Hosting a film showing and discussion
- Hosting a talking circle to discuss the impact of boarding schools
Eligible applicants are organizations in Alaska that are interested in hosting Orange Shirt Day programs and events.
