Purpose

The Colorado Environmental Justice Grant Program will provide funding for projects that avoid, minimize, measure, and mitigate environmental health risks. Projects should advance a healthy and sustainable Colorado where everyone has equitable protection from environmental health risks. Applications from rural, tribal, communities of color, and low-income communities are encouraged.

Projects may focus on:

  • Air quality
  • Water quantity and quality
  • Waste
  • Land use
  • Built environment
  • Climate
  • Noise
  • Chemicals
  • Pesticides
  • Natural assets (such as wetlands, tree planting, and native plants)
  • Soil quality
  • Historical industrial contamination
  • Public engagement when the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) makes new rules about protecting the environment
Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Local governments
  • Federally recognized tribal governments
  • Universities and other educational institutions
  • For-profit corporations
  • Grassroots organizations

Award floor: $50,000

Estimated total program funding: $1,000,000

There is a non-competitive tribal government set aside of $100,000 for the Ute Mountain Ute and Southern Ute tribes.
